Jazz workouts begin today, as Roy Hibbert comes to town. I, for one, think that Jarron Collins has nobly filled the Jazz' roster slot for preppily-attired-nonathletic-big-man-from-elite-private-school; no reason to waste a draft pick here. Hibbert is a skilled big man with real size. But his ceiling is "career NBA backup." Now that's not necessarily a bad thing - our current backup center could best be described as a "career character guy" - but if finding someone to log 9 minutes a game at the 5 spot is our goal, let's get Fesenko, the Chernobyl Giant, some game experience.
Speaking of wasting a draft pick, it looks like the University of Utah's own Johnnie Bryant will also be on hand today. If the Utes' sixth man can get drafted, it may finally be time to send my draft papers into Mr. David Stern. On the positive side, Bryant has enjoyed excellent tutelage at the college level.

All you have to do is look at the team's record over the last four years to know that no recent Utes belong in the NBA.
It hurts me to say this because Hibbert is as soft as they come, but if we keep the pick I'm OK with the Jazz taking him. There is no way he'll be worse than Collins. For one thing he is actually as tall as the average NBA center instead of the average NBA shooting guard.
Bryant was just working out because the Jazz wanted to see Hibbert in the pick & roll. I really doubt he even gets considered for the draft.
Supposedly he wants to be an agent though...
